190 Complaints is an independent arbitration office administering
the Telephone Information Services Standards Council (TISSC) Code
of Practice, and arbitrating on consumer complaints, and complaints
initiated by internal monitoring.
In the course of dealing with consumer complaints, 190 Complaints
is in receipt of personal information from consumers and complies
with the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000.
Please note that in order to effectively investigate a complaint,
a certain amount of personal information (complainant name and contact
details as well as the complaint) will need to be provided to the
Service Provider responsible for the 190 service.
Policy Details are:
- Any personal information collected from complainants is only
for the purpose of investigating and dealing with consumer complaints
- All reasonable steps will be taken to ensure that personal details
which are collected as part of an investigation are correct
- All reasonable steps will be taken to ensure that personal information
is protected from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, modification
and disclosure
- A complainant's information will be available to the complainant
on request and, if proven incorrect, will be amended
- No sensitive information (racial or ethnic origin, political
opinions, membership of a political association, religious beliefs
or affiliations, philosophical beliefs, membership of a professional
or trade association, membership of a trade union, sexual preferences
or practices, criminal record or health information) will be sought
unless it has a bearing on the investigation of the complaint before
