Independent Chairman Applications

Applications are invited by TISSC for the position of  Chairman. The appointment, which is part time, commences January 1, 2010 and is for a period of three years.

TISSC is a national telecommunications industry self regulatory body based in Sydney, that oversees an industry Code for 190 prefix premium rate services.

The Council administers a Code of Practice and regulatory process and has an independent arbitrator and staff to monitor, investigate complaints and rule on breaches of the Code.

The Chairman will be subject to both scheduled and “on call” demands and will lead TISSC’s operations, Council meetings and high level liaison with other bodies and government.

The successful applicant will have a sound knowledge of the telecommunications industry, consumer protection, corporate governance and the ability to foster collaboration between Council constituents.

Remuneration comprises retainer, sitting fees and an hourly rate.

Position description

Responsible for the overall operations of TISSC

Conducts council meetings

Liaises with government, industry and other self regulatory bodies on behalf of TISSC

Available on an “on call” basis to deal with day to day issues arising in the operation of TISSC

Selection criteria

Essential

Sound knowledge of the telecommunications industry and senior experience in a relevant organisation

Substantial knowledge and demonstrable experience in corporate governance and consumer protection

Ability to effectively and proactively represent TISSC in dealings with government, statutory authorities, industry, consumer groups and other self regulatory bodies

Proven ability to professionally chair and lead Council meetings

Ability to act independently and to foster a collaborative relationship amongst the various interests represented on the TISSC Council

Desirable

Understanding of the regulatory environment within which TISSC operates and the challenges facing it

Experience in working within a self regulatory process or alternative dispute resolution process

Knowledge and experience in Communications and/or Corporations law
